Whether you live in Auckland, Canterbury, Invercargill or Taranaki we can ship our fertile eggs straight to your door! Posting eggs does come with some risk, so we can't guarantee they'll all hatch but we try to give them the best chance we can! All eggs are sent via courier post as of the 2024 season.
New Zealand's national postal service is our preferred choice of carrier. NZ Post offers tracking on all of its services, has the largest network in the country (including the rural delivery service) and is also the most reliable. They have excellent customer service and are a pleasure to work with!
To keep the eggs nice and fresh by the time they arrive at your front door, we only ship eggs on Monday's, Tuesday's and Wednesday's. We aim to ship all current orders on Monday however if we do not have enough fresh eggs, or we need to prioritize a rural order then your order may get delayed.
Depending on your location, eggs can take different amounts of time to arrive. Below are the estimated times of arrival, these are only estimates and not a guarantee.
Auckland: 1-2 Days
North Island: 1-2 Days
South Island: 1-2 Days
Rural Delivery: 1-3 Days Longer
NZ Post provides an estimate in the email they send you, these are always wrong and please do not listen to them! The above time frames are correct. Eggs will usually arrive overnight if urban and 2-3 days if rural.
Once you place your order it is logged in our system and we start setting eggs aside for you.
Once we have enough eggs for your order, we pack it. Check out our Packing page for more info on how we pack our eggs!
Once packed your label is created. Your email address (if one has been supplied) will be entered with the label and you will be contacted with updates and tracking. Please do not contact us asking for one as we do not have access to it once the label has been printed.
Your order will then be delivered an unloaded by us at our local NZ Post depot.
Your order is now on its way! Check your tracking to see live updates of where your order is!
As of 1/1/2024 we no longer supply tracking numbers for orders. We do however enter your email into NZ Post when we create your ticket. NZ Post should update you with where your parcel is at and/or a tracking number. We do not have easy access to your tracking number once your ticket has been created and in most cases aren't able to supply you with one, only track the parcel if it has not arrived in time. Tickets are created the day your eggs are sent but may miss the first scan, or any scan along the way so please do not be worried if the tracking is not showing or showing correctly. If you have not received an email from NZ Post then please check your spam however sometimes they do not send one, or your email address was incorrect. Please only contact us if your order has not turned up by the Friday of the week they would have been sent.
Shipping eggs do bring some risks. Below are some common issues and what the cause will be. Please note that we can not take responsibility once eggs leave our place as we provide the eggs with the best chance of being viable prior.
Eggs can break if handled roughly by the post, and even our packaging methods can be useless against some courier drivers!
No signs of life by day 10? Crack the egg open, if the yolk and whites are mixed at this stage the it's more than likely that the eggs were shaken around too much while in courier. If the eggs are rotten or smell off then the eggs were fertile but did not develop. Shipping or issues within the first few days of incubation will cause the eggs to appear infertile.
Opened the box up and you've got the wrong eggs? Even if you're not sure contact us immediately at admin@chickandegg.co.nz . We do ship large volumes of eggs and have multiple staff in our packing team so mix ups can occasionally happen.
Humidity, temperature and bacteria entering the egg can cause issues with development, hatching and defects with the live chicks. This is 100% due to the incubation of the eggs and we are not responsible for this at all. If issues such as this occur and other eggs didn't develop it will point to the direction that the eggs were fertile and did not develop.
Deformities can occur if humidity and temperature are incorrect during incubation and especially hatching. Make sure to regularly check your incubator temp and humidity with and external device and do not open the incubator from day 18-22, or once all eggs have hatched. Occasionally genetic or parent stock deficiencies may cause deformities, although we regularly hatch eggs from all groups and we will know if there is any issues. We also make sure all birds are well looked after and that any birds that present genetic issues ae culled from breeding lines.
Due to the large amount of orders we process and all necessary information being available on this page, we do not reply to most queries about your order. We may reply to some emails that there is an answer for on this page, however please do not expect one. We thank you for your understanding.
