We can take back any unwanted lads as long as they fit our requirements! Read through our rooster return page and if all apply to your birds then fill in the form!
Please make sure all birds bought to us are in good health. Lethargic or ill looking birds will be turned away.
Birds must be free of any external parasites. This includes mites of all kinds. Birds with scaley leg mites may be excepted if they are still in good condition.
As of 1/07/24 all roosters must be 10 weeks old at least for us to take them. Younger roosters will be turned away.
Please state all prior medical conditions such as coccidiosis, broken limbs or worming.
Please confirm with us prior that it is a rooster. Any birds that turn out to be girls may not be able to be returned to you.
As of January 1st 2025 we now have different requirements as to if we can keep the bird. We can keep all roosters that are:
- From Chick and Egg NZ
- Purebred and reasonable quality (from anywhere)
- Can be used for breeding projects
All other roosters we can not guarantee a home for. If bought to us we can keep them for a short period of time and if we have no luck in finding them a home then they will be humanly culled.
We believe all roosters deserve a chance. We aim to provide a home for all birds whether thats in a breeding group, in the rooster flock or with another breeder. Unfortunately not all crossbreed birds can be used though and those excess to demand will be culled humanly. We do not support unnecessary crossbreeding and no longer want to support those who do it.

Roosters in the flock get the same level or parasite control that our breeding and layer stock get. They are wormed and checked for external parasites on arrival. Worming takes place every three months and several times a month 20% of the flock are spot checked for mites and lice.
As with the rest of our birds the roosters have access to auto feeders. These are filled with a 1:1:1 ratio of meat bird crumble (roosters require a higher protein diet than laying hens.), maize and barley. They free range in our forest so have access to a range of goodies there as well as they get kitchen and garden scraps as well as stale bread!
A majority of the birds sleep in several houses. They aren't five-star luxury homes but they provide a safe space for the birds to sleep at night and to go when its raining. Not all like to sleep in the house though, if you look up at night you do tend to see a few fluffy bums!
The roosters free range in a part of our native bush. It is quite open and the rough perimeter of where they roam has traps set to catch any rats, feral cats or mustelids who may be around. Fencing in some parts is being set up as the more roosters we get the more they tend to roam. They don't tend to go very far though and they always come back to eat.
Our bush has a spring fed creek that flows through it and the roosters have access to it. Its not very far from the main house so everyone knows where it is. It solely runs through this bush and only for a few hundred meters before they can access it so it is free of any pollutants.
Rooster return days happen every three weeks on a Sunday and usually run from 9am to 11am. They run off 15 minute time slots. All birds must be delivered directly to us, we do not collect roosters. Please make sure to arrive on time, early or late arrivals cause a lot of unnecessary hassle. Emails are sent out 2-7 days in advance. PLEASE do not fill in a form if you do not intend to drop off your rooster to us.
Emails from us tend to go there, you don't want to miss out
