Fertile Egg Packaging

The packaging around fertile eggs is vital to ensure they have a good chance of hatching. We pride ourselves on the quality of packaging we provide with only a few reported breakages each season!

The process

The overall goal when packing eggs is to make sure everything in the box moves as one and there is enough wrapping around them to sustain a drop or any damage to the box.

The Eggs

Prior to packing each egg is checked for cracks or anything that may affect the hatch rate of the egg. Slightly dirty eggs are wiped down. Some eggs may have grass stains if the hens have laid them in their own nests or slight marks if its been raining. Any egg that is not ideal for hatching is not sent.

Egg Wrapping

Each egg is individually wrapped in toilet paper so it can not move around the egg carton. Different layers are used on different sized eggs, 4 for large eggs, 5 for average eggs and 6-12 for smaller eggs.

The Carton

Once wrapped eggs are placed in an egg carton. The carton is then closed and tested to make sure none move around. Once secure the carton is then wrapped in 3 layers of bubble wrap then tightly tapped up.

Box Filling

We use folded boxes, newspaper/magazines and recycled feed bags to fill the space around the carton in the box. These are placed in tightly around the carton so it can not move.

The Box

Once packed the box is taped up and then a postage label is attached on the top. Fragile tape is used and any postage instructions written on the box.
